Meetings and Mirror Balls: Reflections on Retail Technology Show 2026

In his latest blog, Scala EMEA GM Harry Horn reflects on the tenth appearance of Scala at the Retail Technology Show in London where the team enjoyed two days of conversations with partners, retailers, and hospitality brands. Musing on the ways Scala solutions help brands deliver smarter, more connected customer experiences at scale, Harry then looks ahead to the Peerless AV Showcase in May, and Shoptalk Europe in June as well as plans for Scala's 40th anniversary celebrations in 2027.

Well, what a couple of days that was. Last week, Scala appeared at our tenth Retail Technology Show in London. Over two enjoyable days, in the glow of many mirror balls (the theme this year was Disco), we met with our partners, retailers, and other solution suppliers, all curious about Scala solutions and what we have coming up.

It was fantastic to reconnect with so many valued partners and to meet new faces from across the retail, hospitality, and technology landscape. The energy on our stand was brilliant from the moment the doors opened, possibly partly driven by the free barista-made coffee, and the conversations we had reinforced just how strong the appetite is right now for smart, interactive digital solutions that genuinely enhance the customer experience.

We kept customer experience front and center at the stand this year and showcased our solutions for retail and hospitality. On the retail side, we shared versions of our lift-and-learn and guided selling solutions, as well as triggered displays. The solutions drew crowds throughout both days, with attendees attracted by how the screens transform into interactive storytelling opportunities. You can see more on how our displayed solutions work beyond the trade show floor in our case studies.

Our new complete restaurant automation solution, Scala Quintet, also made a real impression. The ability to bring together digital displays, menu boards, ordering kiosks, kitchen tracking, and order pick-up technology in one unified platform is resonating strongly, particularly with hospitality and QSR brands looking for end-to-end efficiency. Of course, the Quintet technology, as with all Scala technology, is flexible and can be used across a variety of industries.

Thank you to all who came by the stand. If you did not get the chance to visit us at the show, or if you would like to spend more time with our technology, I would love to invite you to our London showroom. Get in touch with the team, and we will arrange a session tailored to your business. Our written and filmed case studies are fantastic, but nothing beats playing with the solutions yourself.

Looking ahead, I will be back in London on May 12th for the Peerless AV Showcase at Lord’s Cricket Ground, where I hope to catch up with more of our partners. I also want to start sharing some exciting plans. Scala turns 40 next year, and we would love your help in making the celebrations truly special. More on that very soon.

After that, the Scala team heads to Barcelona for Shoptalk Europe, June 9th-11th. Shoptalk is always a great show for us, but this year I am especially excited to be on Spanish soil as it will be our first show in the country since ISE and Scala winning the Retail Marketing & Messaging Award at the Digital Signage Awards 2026 for an ambitious and beautifully executed project with leading fuel supplier Repsol. This project was led by the Spanish Scala team in Madrid and supported by the larger Scala EMEA team, and it demonstrates the way we like to work: Local experts backed by international shared support and services. I am looking forward to meeting with Shoptalk attendees to showcase our technology and successes, and to learn from them about the challenges that Scala solutions may help them address.

So whether there are mirrorballs, cricket balls, or potato bombas, Scala is on the road showcasing our latest scalable solutions alongside some of the biggest names in European retail. It is shaping up to be a tremendous summer for Scala, and I look forward to sharing more with you.
