How to update PostgreSQL, Java, Apache Tomcat, and Content Manager for Release 6?

Stop the Apache Tomcat Service. Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services / Apache Tomcat Service. Right-click to select Stop.

If using MYSQL or MS SQL please skip the following PostgreSQL instructions and go to  Installing Java 6 Update 26 for Release 6.

Updating  PostgreSQL to version 9.0.4 for Release 6:

Note: If you are using PostgreSQL 8.3 you need not update to version 9.0.4. Because of new security features we suggest to update to version 9.0.4.

 1. Download the current PostgreSQL 9.0.6 from http://requirements.scala.com/3rdparty.asp?need=postgres.

 2. Backup your current database by following the instructions found in Chapter 8.1.2 of the Content Manager User's Guide. Make sure the file size does not result in 0 kb.

 3. After checking the file size check to see if you have a good backup by restoring this backup to your already installed PostgreSQL 8.3 following the instructions found in Chapter 8.2.2 of the Content Manager User's Guide.

 4. Select Start / Control Panel / Add and Remove Programs. Remove PostgreSQL.8.3.

 5. In Windows User Accounts remove the PostgreSQL account.

 6. Install PostgreSQL 9.0.4 from the executable you downloaded. Maintain the default settings. When prompted to create a single password this will be used for both the PostgreSQL Windows and Super User accounts. Toward the end of the install uncheck ‘Launch Stack Builder at exit’.

 7. Make sure the PostgreSQL Service is Started and set to Automatic. Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services / PostgreSQL Database Service. Right-click and select Properties to select Automatic.

 8. Restore your backup database following the instructions found in Chapter 8.2.2 of the Release 5 Content Manager User's Guide.
