TV signal display in running script

Posted: Monday, 10/21/2002 -- by Clyde D'souza. Subject: TV signal display in running script

Hi all,
Im building a presentation for a client who wants to also incorporate a live tv signal into the "menu" e.g. pressing a button saying 'local news' should bring up CNN or whatever and play fullscreen...
.. now on the Amiga version of Scala this was easy.. pass the output thru a genlock and whenever someone pressed teh above mentions 'local news' button, you just has to jump to a page filled with the background color (color 0 on amiga palette)... and the live TV signal would show thru..
How do we replicate this on the PC in MM200?

I know there is PC genlock support... how exactly does this work? as i assume.. pc genlocks take a VGA signal and pass it to the genlock box which can key out green/black and underlay it with a live video signal...this mixed/genlocked signal can then be seen via the composite or component out of the genlock on a TV / plasma etc....
... this is fine if you carefully design your still images and mask out areas with a "GREEN color" so live video shows thru at all times... but what happens if your playing an avi? whereever there's green the unwanted live Tv signal will also show thru...

is there a solution? besides playing TV in a window with the TVtuner cards that Scala supports? if no solution is available, is there a EX for TVTuner card support for scalaMM200?

Thanks,
Clyde

If you just want switching between full screen video and full screen Scala I would suggest AV switcher. Extron (www.extron.com) has great line of switchers, seamless video switchers etc.

If your sources are not referenced to house clock use seamless video switcher (It has two frame synchronizers in it) and it can be controlled with RS232. You will have to write your routines for RS232 control since MM200 does not have it.

You can use also "Jump to black page" if you find overlay adapter (genlock) that use luma key. However all luma keyers without separate key input have difficulties when overlaying dark colors (dark blue or violet).

Thanks for the tip Vladimir,
But like I said in my post, if i setup luma key and did a "jump to plain black page" all would run perfect... but what about "black" being present in others pages in the script? the TV signal would show as a "hole" in the graphics.

Is there any PC genlock that can be software switched to "key" modo via scala?
that would be the answer!

There are EX sold separately for controlling Scan converters but only for IC200 (IC3 ?). There is no such thing for mm200. You will have to write your own software that control SC from MM200 using rs232 port.
