Hey there,
i have got two qureies, Firstly i want to have a movie clip with a transparent background, which is to be placed on top of another movie/song. (something like MTV's logo which appears everynow and then on the screen)
I was not able to get any solution for it, so i found about mng (i guess its more like the elder brother of png)it plays png animation...but i was not able to import it into scala...though i found the first link on the page about mng --http://www.scala.com/multimedia/converters.html
but it does not import at all...
any suggestions,
thanks
Ravi,
Your only solution is to use Chroma Key feature that Scala provides.
However your playback machine will have to provide quite a bit of power. And if you haven't be careful when producing animations for overlay, results can be very different.

I am sooooo frustrated right now with our new scala machine...
if what i am reading in the manual and on this discussion board is correct, then there is NO WAY to have nicely keyed animations layed over other animations? thats a crock..
I am a designer at a news station, and i have been charged with the duty of using the scala system as our new weather graphics computer. I have been designing a new weather package to impliment with the scala system, and now i find out i cannot key my animated weather icons....
is this the end of the road for me??? does ANYONE know how i can key animated icons, with different levels of opacities, etc. and NOT use the chroma key???
PLEASE HELP> I'm at the end of my rope.
Thanks
Alissa
Hi Alissa,
Unfortunately, looks like very few scala users would like to see one such thing.
I have posted once one such request: (http://www.scala.com/asp/messageboard.asp?t=2705) however, I haven't seen that anyone else asked for it except you.
There are the tricks that you can use for overcoming this but none of those is nowhere near perfect.
For example you may:
1) Render several animations having same foreground elements but with several background colors. Than you choose closest match of animation background color with slide background and use scala keying (it can help in reducing artifacts of scala keying)
2) Render your animations with true alpha channel. Then use the part of scala page background on which animation will be played, as a background in compositing software, and overlay animation on top of it. Resulting animation can be played over scala slide without keying (but you will have to place it on the exact spot on scala slide).
