failing module mmos.exe errors

Posted: Monday, 06/07/2004 -- by Jeremy Lee. Subject: failing module mmos.exe errors

I have a tech support thread going too but has anyone ran into this?

Almost once a day all 3 of our scala players get an error that reads:

Event ID: 1000
Source: Application Error
Description: Faulting application mmos.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faultin module mmos.exe version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0036f9b6

That is straight out of the error logs. We have tried just about everything to fix the problem. The machines exceed the minimum requirements. They have the following configureation:

Software installed:
Adobe Reader 6.0.1
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) client version 1.5
Broadcom Management Programs
Easy Access Button Support

I have never seen this type of error.

I would note that your players have way too much software installed on them--more is never _better_ when it comes to system configuration. For a stable machine you want the least amount of software installed needed to do the job.

If all three of your machines are identically configured and they fail in about the same amount of run time--but if started at different times each fails "n" hours after it is started--I would suspect some software interaction/virus/worm.

If the failure time is variable, bad RAM or Power Supply problems might be good candidates in investigate. [e.g. or, if all of the Players fall over at the exact same time each day and they are connected to the same power source--it might be a daily voltage/amperage blip]

It maybe that one of your numerous programs/services active, is eating memory. It may have similar behavior as in the case that memory is bad, it depends how someone who has written program handles memory requests.

Anyway if in your case player fail after several loops - that can be a problem.

Tricky part is to discover who is doing it.

It may look as long way, but I would try with last known good setup, and expand it by one software component at the time and waiting for amount of time needed that error shows up.

If you have purchased your machine from Scala VAR, and you haven't changed it since VAR setup, you should ask Scala VAR what went wrong.
