Dynamic Updating Content

Posted: Wednesday, 06/09/2004 -- by Andy Hill. Subject: Dynamic Updating Content

I am a new user and have hit a brick wall. I need to be able to use individual text files to update a local news automatically without reopening the designer, saving, and republishing. I need the news to appear as text on a blank new page. The global scrollers allow this interaction using the designer to assign files. I am very new with the scala script and using the designer. I have several linked subscripts running in one main that seems to be stable, but I have to get the local news updated on the weekend by a part-time employee. If they break my main script I will get my weekend extremely messed up. Can some one give me a step by step approach to achieving the goal of allowing a text file to update local news without republishing. Please Help. Thanks in advance.

One way of doing this is by using TextFileEX, page 195 of "Extended Authoring & Publishing User's Guide".

If that doesn't help, you will have to go for a little more advanced approach.
One is to use file IO functions. Useful link for starting this approach is:

http://www.scala.com/downloads/documentation.html

You will need last two documents and basic knowledge of any programming language.

Third, and maybe the best approach (although possibly slowest to start up) is to use WinScriptEX (page 226 of above mentioned manual). However you will start using it much quicker if you take a look at:
