1) Put video clip in scala script page and set LOOPS to infinity
When scrip is started from PLAY video clip is playing a moment and starting again.
When scrip is started from PREVIEW clip is playing corect.
2) When LOOPS is set 1, 2,3...etc PLAY is good
THIS problem was in 2.xx rel. ICD5. IN 2.10 rel. too. I thinking, that PLAYER have the same problem.

Details are wonderful things...
Have you provided any that would be usefful in helping resolve this issue?
[as I have a test lab with 1,000's of video files that Play correctly]
You just might want to describe your video file? CODEC, bit rate, what created it, encoding parameters, etc.

"as I have a test lab with 1,000's of video files that Play correctly"...but this problem is only when we are set LOOP to infinity.
Codecs, bitrates..every (mpg, flash, divx....)
I use software decoder, ex. k-lite codecs pack, for mpg- MainConcept from ScalaIC5.

Wojtek
Sorry.
We can not provide you with any support on such a system. K-Lite is illegal and a serious mess to the entire CODEC/DirectShow filter path.
Repeat you experiment with a _clean_ machine.
Only OS-components and the Scala IC5 install.
I suspect that you problem will "go away".
--JSS
Ok John, only M$ (Windows) and Scala...tomorrow

Wojtek
John, I'm tested. My problem is still in the same place, not "go away".
Clear WIN XP SP2 with M$ updates and Scala IC5 from oryginal Scala DVD.
Pleace, check this sytuation o your computer.

Hello!
I think the situation is this: I assume you're putting a clip NOT as background, but as a regular element in a page, right? and then you're setting it to infinity loops.
So you're expecting that, upon PLAY, that aprticular page would stay there forever.
But this is not true.
When you set a video to infinity in Scala, behaviour of the page is not what your expect (and this is true since IC3)
By default, a page is set to 1 second time and wait for elements set to ON.
But this particular element is NOT counted as an element to wait for. So, as soon as the 1 second pause is reached, the script ends (one page script, I assume) and, by default gets restarted:
Et voilą, your video beguins AGAIN just having shown 1 second of it.
(And PLEASE, Scala people out there, leave it THAT way 'cause it is a very powerfull tool to make good content.)
But what happens to preview?
In preview and in this situation, the 1 second "page time" is not taken into account.
Hint: If hou want to get the Real Thing, turn "quik preview" off and NEVER trust your eyes until you push PLAY. Believe me, It does prove to be a good advice in a long term.
So, what should you do to have a video infinitely looped in one single paged-scrip? Just put your video as background, set it to 1 loop, and wait? On. Then, Set your page to time zero, wait for elements? ON. As soon as the video finishes, the page finishes, the script is restarted => Infinite loops.
Hope this helps.

Jorge Mira

Hello Jorge
Some definitions from "InfoChannelDesignerUsersGuide"
Chapter10:
"Wait for Element(s) – The page or element will not advance until the page or element is complete."
...
"The Wait For Elements setting will automatically advance after elements inside a page have finished playing. The page will not advance as long as there are elements in motion through transitions, and timed events, or if there are animations or movies playing. This is the default setting for all new pages and subscripts."
Chapter 7
"Loops
Loops specify the number of times an animation repeats before the next event in the script is displayed, or the animation stops.
You can specify a number between one (1) and nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine (9999), or “infinite repeat” setting. This last setting will repeat indefinitely, which is useful when you don’t know when the animation should stop. The default for animclips is infinite repeat, as these animations are frequently designed to loop. Movieclips, however,
default to a Loops value of 1, because they are usually made to be played just once. For more detail on this option, please see the Repeating the animation
section in Chapter 10: Timing.
NOTE: When Loops are intinite, the Wait option is appled as follows: if Wait? is on, the animation will continue until the page advances. If Wait? is off, the page will advance when all remaining elements on the page have completed, or the duration of the page is set to a defined time."
Your sugestion are very good, but how put two or more clips on background? I now, that is posible to use NLE video editig system for compose special clip with two or more clips. This
"By default, a page is set to 1 second time and wait for elements set to ON. "- I don't understand whay?
"But this particular element is NOT counted as an element to wait for. So, as soon as the 1 second pause is reached, the script ends (one page script, I assume) and, by default gets restarted:

Only with combinations "LOOP(video)=infinity" and "Wait for element" I have problems.

Hello Wojtek!
Yes, this is a particular issue and I like it as it is because I use a lot of loopable video in the background (rendered so it does a perfect loop). Then, I usually put another chroma-key enabled loopable video (for some 3D animation) and then the REAL video to be shown (a regular clip).
I like that the timing of the page is controlled by the 3rd video, so when this one ends, the page ends. So my other 2 videos should be there looping infinity times, but not counted in the "end trigger" of the page.
So, in order to put 1 video in a page and let them loop infinity times, you should do my last post advice. If you are in a interactive situation (variables-controlled or triggered by some othe thing) , maybe you want one video to "stay there" until some other thing happens. it is easier to build a group with "repeat until", so you are able to exit that situatuion changing the value of the conditioned variable by some other resource (hot key, vbs, serial input, On_Notification....)
Best regards,
Jorge
...sorry!
If you want to put 2 videos, just put them as items without transition into one page.
I you want some kind of blend between them, render one of them with a blue gradient wisely-positioned s you'll be able to chroma-key it into designer.
The above posts, then, apply the same to this page.
Best regards,
Jorge.
Hello
Can anybody try add outline or shadow to video clip?
Pleace..try.. :(
Look and change value for this efects in "Effect", "opacity" and "transparency" menu too.
Good luck :((
ICD5rel2.10
Wojtek
Wojtek,
Glad it is not just me on the outline or shadows. I have not been able to do this successfully in IC5. I have the latest build on all IC components.
I have a franchise agreement with a cable company, and I have many encoders that stream various digital channels and/or video sources within a page/slide.
On IC3, I had this very nice template that streamed a couple of channels (weather, news, etc.) all at the same time, along with the current date/time and logos...and all of my video 'boxes' had a nice outline to them, as I desired.
After updating to IC5...the outlines no longer worked. I re-built the script from scratch, just to make sure...no go. I am still waiting for this fix.
My workaround was to created a slightly larger 'box', with the color I desired (in this case blue), on a layer beneath the video stream box. It looks as it did previously, and works for now...but I'd like to transition away from having those added elements on my pages and have the simple outline issue resolved.
And will not be fixed in Release 3.0. [hopefully soon after that]
Place an appropriate bitmap a couple of pixels larger than your clip behind the video.

Dear All
this is my version of problem, maybe anyone could recommend how to solve this problem.
with ICD5 machine on one specific file. as i'm understanding DVD (VOB) file are mpeg2 format, therefore i copy file from DVD and change the surname to mpg then add to my page design.... the problem is
when i preview inside Scala Designer, everything working fine except this VOB converted file. it show no sound at all...... but when i play the same file with Windows Media Player it show sound normally... i don't know where to start.....
i did check at file extension default application and it default to "Windows Media Player"
looking for your assistance. ^_^
Joe,
to nail your problem down, you should take a look at your codecs installed. there is a very good tool around from microsoft, called "GraphEdit" (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms787855.aspx). Follow the instructions.
With that one installed you may render a video mpg and you will see which codecs are used to render that file. I assume there is one codec installed that seems to be not compatible with scala where WMP doesn't make trouble.
Thomas
"Joe" likely has a system with Windows Media Player support for DVD-Playing. HOWEVER--the "AC3" filter installed is likely "captive" to the specific application and not available for general DirectShow use.
The correct solution:
If you have legal rights to the .VOB file in question--use the authoring tool that created the file to safe the MPEG-2 data as a Program File. [and convert the 5.1Ch AC3 auto to a 2Ch MP2 stream!]
