One of my players will not be connected to a network. How do I publish content to that player?
Thanks!
Matt
There is a "Broadcast to Disc" option for IC3--basically we can treat a "Removable Media" as a "Package Delivery Satellite Broadcast" Job.
Has the advantage that *if* you can have low bandwidth communications with your Player--say Dial-up--it can still participate in Playback Status, Health Monitoring, Billing Log Retrieval, etc.

The sign that this player drives is very large and prominant, and will be the target of hackers, therefore it can not be connected to a network in any way. The designer/network manager needs to be networked to other players, otherwise I would just isolate it as well. If Scala can't deliver content via sneakernet, we will have to develop a solution for the large sign in Flash, but I don't want to give up on Scala yet.
Matt
put your sign behind a vpn. It's quite difficult to hack that way unless $BADGUY is already in your network. Separate your scala network from everything else you have for added paranoia.
sneakernet burns people time and they are probably the most expensive part of your service.
As I earlier indicated--there is a perfectly viable IC3 solution for "Sneaker-net" transfers.
As for secure network architecture--"Hackers might get at the box" is generally a weak argument. It is perfectly possible to set to a secure networking environment--it just requires a bit of work and some planning.
Rule #1: Do not use "One Vendor's Products" for the complete security stack. [use different FW and VPN vendors--use two layers of FW's--each from a different vendor] Use IP#-filtering rules/ACL's to only permit authorized Workstations/Sub-sets to intercommunicate on designated IP-protocoles]
Rule #2: Do not depend exclusively on "The VPN" as your security model--that is the way off the Eggshell.
Rule #3: Players do not need to be part of a Domain/AD-Tree--don't put them there!
Rule #4: Machine-specific Administrator account passwords are a good thing. ["Fake/false/Straw-man" Administrator accounts are also good--"Fred" makes a nice name for the _real_ Admin account, doesn't it???] All passwords on Windows should be over eight characters long!
Rule #5: Strong ACL's in the file system. Learn how to correctly implement them!
Rule #6: AV-software's place is on the borders of your network--not on the Players. [Designers, Net-Content Managers, Admin workstations]
Rule #7: Ghost is your friend. Learn how to set up a "Dual-boot" system configuration with a "Ghost-Restore" partition. [other disk imaging products work as well--I am using "Ghost" in the sense of "Kleenex"/"Tempo"]
Rule #8: The Enhanced Write Filter--now even available for XP-Pro as a part of the "Shared Computer Resource Kit"--its from Microsoft and its free. Learn it. Live it.
Rule #9: The "Documents and Settings" directory tree does not belong on the same partition as the OS and the Applications. Learn how to make a machine with a "Scripted Windows Installation"--so that the machine can start life cleanly without any user directories on the Boot/OS partition. [Yes--it is possible to play "Registry Games" after the fact--but its better to learn how to build a secure machine cleanly and correctly the 1st time!]
Have Fun!
