All our locations use dynamic ip ADSL connections and I've been experimenting with Hamachi to see if it is a viable alternative to the company springing for static ip connections (which would make my job a lot easier:) ). However, I've been having intermittent problems with some of the remote PCs. When first I insatlled the Hamachi, it worked flawlessly.
I am thinking of trying the "Premium" - read that as "Paid" - services to see if that would work better. Does anybody in Scalaland have any qood experiences with Hamachi, interms of network monitoring (Heartbeat Signal) and content updating?
Alternatively, does anybody use a DNS service like DynDNS.org to achieve the same effect? The modems/routers we use are compatible, but I can't seem to find any FAQs out there....
Watch out if you try DynDNS. Their update client will beep non-stop if it is unable to update itself. I had three sites complain about the constant beeping and I had to drive there (couldn't remote in, internet was down) to remove it. I've since installed it on a test machine to see if there's a way to eliminate the beeping.
I've also tested logmein.com but it whacks out IC3 and IC5 when you log in. I've had the player go to black screen and require a restart of player. Unfortunately this happens during the log out process so it's a bit of a catch-22. Logmein.com is nice, in theory, because it heartbeats back and provides total control. Probably similar to gotomypc.com, which I've never tried. I do control several non-InfoChannel Player computers with logmein.com with success thus far.
I too am interested in what others are using. I've considered buying routers compatible with dyndns.com to provide the heartbeat. Most of my sites currently attach directly to their broadband routers.

The current "recommended" DYnDNS client, v3.1.0.15s, runs as a Service and does not appear to case any interaction/"beeping" type issues.

Useful Tool!

Thanks John. I'll check this out. Perhaps it was the "Start with Windows" portion of the app that was causing me problems. I wasn't sure if it worked without the systray icon loaded. It was that app that caused me all the trouble. Something to try!
