Optimize for You Tube display

Wednesday, 07/04/2007 -- by Mark. Subject: Optimize for You Tube display

Hello, It has been some time I have worked with Scala mm200 and I did beta testing for the first Infochannel designer. Been a few years but I see John and Jeff are still posting. I have been doing other projects and wish to say hello to all you guys.

I want to optimize the best output dosplay quality for a short Youtube video. Any tips beyond outputing the video through a scan converter to a capture card?

Any specifics on the best way to go with is MPEG 1 or 2. Any specific models or capture methods recommended?

Use FRAPS. Transcode the video. Upload. Done.

Any tips on getting this to work? Must I have the graphics card that is listed. Have used ATI products so which do you recommend? I have graphics on board on my current setup and cannot get this program to work at all.

It all goes down to "Is this box correctly configured?".

Our "Mid-range/WORKHORSE" pre-configured EQUUSCS Player is an Intel D946GZIS/1GB of Dual-bank DDR2-667 SDRAM/nVidia GeForce7600/Core2Duo/XPPsp2/WMP9 machine.

This is a very moderate system.

I have experienced no failures with FRAPS v.2.8.x on such known-good, professionally configured, stable machines for moderate, < 5 minutes, captures. [performance is obviously limited on many systems and having a "dedicated video capture HDD" is a really, really, really good idea--but on such machines I have experienced no problems of the SW actually doing its basic "job".]

I would suggest a _clean_ system with minimal extraneous SW installed.

Hello John,

Perhaps I have been away way too long. I am simply loading this
program and hitting F9 and expect this to work by recording a file to the
hard drive. When I press F9 nothing happens on my laptop or simple
desktop. What to do? I have no input cards and any other extras connected at
present on either machine.

Maybe it is something simple or possible am missing something?

Regards,

Mark

I have Fraps but can not record videos embedded in a browser. Fraps works well for standalone players (i.e. wmp) that's playing mpg and avi but not wmv. Just press F9 when you begin video and press F9 when you want to stop capturing. Maybe it matters which format the embedded video is in the browser. Youtube format may not be recognized by Fraps. Again, this is my experience.

Fraps does record well from Scala player.

Also, if your hard drive is formatted as NTFS, you have a 4gb max file size, and if it's FAT32, it's 2gb.
