Hi all,
I can imagine a routine that would allow for the subject above to work. As I am not a VB-scripter it will take me a long time to get this functional on my own...
I saw Marvin (pthgroep.nl) mentioning it in his new-years message, and wondered if he might be willing to share a bit of his hard work on this subject... =]
Ofcourse any other information is very welcome as well!!
Thanks in avdvance!!
Marc
We have several Scala customers who have done such things over the years--for Commercial Airplanes, Cruise Ships, etc.
Nautical/Navigational GPS devices generally have RS-232 ports and they have an ISO-standardized output format for Lat/Long./Timestamp info.
No VB required--just Scala Script reading the serial port, calculating the results of the positional information relative to the display maps and then moving the "little boat/plane/car" accordingly on the display. [...basic 3rd-year undergraduate spherical trig is useful here!]
A nice exercise!

I did use the search function, usually do since it's less effort than typing in the question and checking for answers.
When I searched for GPS I got two hits prior to my own message, both just referring to the use of GPS, nothing specific.
But ofcourse you are right, no VB-scripting required, just reading the rs232 commands and so forth.. was looking in the wrong direction (should have used GPS ;) )
Thanks!
I've done this using a specifically written piece of software that reads the GPS-data and triggers on certain areas (defined in a database), draws trailes, etc. This was quite a lot of work so I can't give to anyone for free, but if you have a budget and are really interested, let me know!

I managed to get Scla to read and interpret the data coming from a GPS receiver. I can now play content that is triggered by the physical location of the player.
No need for drawing trails on a map at the moment, and glad about that since I imagine there is a lot more scripting involved, as you say in your reply below. Whenever we need such functionality I would certainly like to contact you Marvin!
Thanks!
Marc
