There should be no worries--all communications between Players and Content Manager5's is via the designated TCP Port--80, 8080, whatever.
If you have a player that can not talk to its CM5--then you will need to purchase InfoChannel5 Players with the _physical_ HASP Dongles.

Searching through the message board, this appears to be the same issue I'm having.
We have existing players working at remote sites, however this most recent site installation is trying to connect through a corporate proxy server but the Player Configuration Module is unable to connect to the Content Manager (Plan Delivery: Pull from InfoChannel Content Manager).
This appears to be a problem with the player software because if I open up a web browser on the same player machine, it resolves the URL to the Content Manager with no problems, but if I try the exact same URL within the Configuration Module, the player will not connect.
I have verified the correct username and password.
Any ideas what is going on here? or suggest a fix?
Thanks,
Duff
What type of Proxy? How is it configured?
Can you connect to the CM5 from the command line using telnet on you CM5's port number? [e.g. telnet cm5.company.com 8080 ]
HINT: If telnet does not work--neither will IC5. Once the proxy configuration has been corrected so that telnet works--so will IC5.

I had something similar happen when I first installed IC5 Content Manager (v2.0.3, at the time).
Just odd behavior from the Players, Heartbeats, and obtaining the licenses...it would work, then not...very sporadic. I did many tests to narrow down any possible network issues, but nothing was 'wrong' in regards to Active Directory Group Policies, Firewalls, Switch, etc. settings.
...I ended up having to backup the CM content, uninstall the CM (including all regkeys and folder/file paths that the installer may not of picked up) completely - including Apache, etc...then reinstalling.
Everything worked 'normally' afterwards, and has since all the way to the latest update (v.2.0.11). This may or may not work for you, and you may of already of tried this, but it did take care of my issue.
(sorry about the 'may' induced sentence there. lol)
Sorry Chris--but you described "flailing around in the dark until the problem goes away".
You did not find any cause for your problems and your suggested resolution--a complete uninstall and reinstall--does nothing to prevent your issue(s) from repeating.
Neither Active-Director nor "Group Policies"--except to the extent that they may govern Firewall/AntiVirus SW configuration(s) or prevent the execution of specific SW would have any impact on CM5.
There is no "black magic" to IC5 communications.
Its simple HTML-get/send requests over TCP port <whatever>.
There is nothing that can not be replicated via telnet from the command line. If it works over telnet--it will work from the SW.

I had the client perform the Telnet test (on port 80) and as John suggested, the telnet session could not be established to CM5 on port 80. So now the proxy administrator wants to know what protocol the player is using. The assumption has been that the player uses HTTP since the CONFIGURATION MODULE specifies HTTP:// in the URL, but this appears not to be the case.
Can anyone confirm what protocol the player is using to communicate to CM5 so I can help the client fix their proxy set up?
Thanks...
Hint: If telnet did not work--IC5 will not.
If telnet did not work--then the Proxy Server is mis-configured.
When the Proxy Server is fixed, telnet will work. When telnet works--so will IC5.

To Vormittag
i think u need both port 80 and 8080; in order to make Activation work,
Joe
