July 23, 2004 — Scala Signs Agreement To Acquire Streambase Technologies
Exton, PA, (Business Wire) July 23, 2004 -- Scala, Inc., the world's leading provider of end-to-end software solutions for creating and controlling digital signage networks, today announced that it has signed an agreement with the major shareholders of Streambase Technologies to acquire Norwegian-based Streambase Technologies AS, makers of cutting edge content management and video server network solutions for business.
"This acquisition is a natural," states Gerard Bucas, Chairman and CEO of Scala, Inc., recently named one of Digital Media Magazine's Top-100 technology executives. "Scala's InfoChannel® platform is already the leading worldwide content creation and delivery platform for large Digital Signage networks, while Streambase adds a sophisticated, field-proven, content management system coupled with their high performance streaming video server technology allowing simultaneous delivery of rich media content to the desktop or the Web in addition to digital signage displays. This will significantly expand our product offering and allow our Partners and Value Added Resellers (VARs) to engage in a larger set of opportunities."
"Streambase also provides us with better access to the Scandinavian market, where they have already won some large contracts partnering with IBM and other strategic partners in the region. Together our objective is to become the leading international supplier of end-to-end software solution platforms for content management and delivery of Digital Media. The significant growth projections for this market segment over the next few years should allow us to maintain our ongoing strong growth and profitability."
The Scala InfoChannel software platform is the enabling technology that drives most of the largest digital signage and corporate communications networks throughout the world. Digital signage is the process by which today's generation of flat panel televisions, such as Plasma, LCD and large outdoor LED displays are used to replace traditional signage in public places, for the purpose of communicating, advertising and educating. Using Scala's InfoChannel software platform, these displays are then connected through an IP-based network (broadband, satellite, internet or even dial-up lines), allowing full central control of the message and rich-media content to be delivered to thousands of these networked screens.
The combined Scala and Streambase product offering promises to become the most mature and complete software suite available for creating, managing and delivering rich media content in the rapidly emerging digital signage industry, further extending Scala's already significant lead.
Scala's products are sold through strategic partners and Value Added Resellers (VARs) worldwide. In 2003, the company's products were shipped to customers in more than 30 countries, with more than forty-five percent of sales being generated outside of the USA.
