April 6, 2000 - Scala to Increase the Possibilities of Broadcast Multimedia.

Calabasas, California (April 6, 2000) - Scala, Inc., an international developer of multimedia authoring and broadcasting solutions, today announced a new initiative that will propel opportunities in the broadcast multimedia market.

Scala plans to expand its worldwide base of customers already using its InfoChannel IC200 software for corporate communications, training, cable television, and digital signage. InfoChannel enables content to be distributed via local or large-scale networks to strategically placed video displays, or on broadcast TV channels. The product is sold by Scala's Value Added Reseller partners who develop turnkey solutions based on Scala technology.

"Our new products and solutions will allow for larger scale installations with more content for larger audiences," said Marc Rifkin, Marketing Director of Scala, Inc. "Companies will be able to more easily create content for communications, advertising, and education, and broadcast it via the web as well as satellite and multicast-IP."

On April 10th at NAB 2000 in Las Vegas, Scala will be announcing two new products that will increase the potential size of InfoChannel installations by enabling large-scale broadcasting as well as more ubiquitous authoring.

With the upcoming InfoChannel Broadcast Server, users can deploy multimedia to potentially thousands of sites via satellite and multicast-IP networks. Scala is working with major satellite service providers to ease the process of implementing a satellite-based network.

"Another part of our strategy is to accelerate the acceptance of rich media by enabling more people to create it," said Rifkin. "Our entry and mid-level products allow anyone to create TV-quality interactive multimedia and web presentations."

InfoChannel Reporter (also to be announced at NAB) expands on IC200 by enabling anyone in an organization to become a contributor to their InfoChannel communication network. IC Reporter features a template-based interface to enter content for display on Scala-driven TV screens.

All of Scala's products feature an easy to learn user interface, and a multimedia playback technology that captures attention with its smooth, full-screen integration of text, graphics, animation, sound and video. It allows for "broadcast TV quality" content to be created and viewed on today's standard PCs. This new level of quality finally brings broadband closer to the immersive experience created by broadcast television.

"With products that can create content for both TV and web, Scala is positioned at the convergence of the two largest viewer audiences in the world." said Jeff Porter, Vice President of Engineering, Scala, Inc. "Users of Scala solutions can address an unprecedented range of viewers at home, in the office, in retail stores, airports or even factory floors."
